Abstract

The relevance of the topic is related to the general problems of research into the value orientation and worldview of modern youth in order to help them understand the peculiarities of Russian politics and its place in a globalizing world. The article is based on 113 introductory essays of applicants who submitted documents to the Far Eastern Federal University in the field of training “Journalism”. The views of school graduates on the development of society and the state in the context of professional activity and the social role of the media, blogosphere and mass communications in modern conditions are considered. The results of a thematic analysis of essay texts on the following issues are presented: “Power and Politics”, “Ethnic Communities and Interethnic Relations”, “Social Sphere”, “Man and Personality”, “Media in the Internet Age”, “Economics, Market and Monetary Politics”, “Society and Culture”. The features of the choice of topics, the dominant points of view of applicants on the main social problems are shown, and the reasons for this particular vision are comprehended. The obtained results of the analysis of applicants’ essays can serve as the basis for further research in the field of modern mass communications and their role in humanitarian processes.
