Participatory journalism is a type of journalism that involves the active involvement of the audience in the process of creating and disseminating information. This activity is focused on the interaction of journalists and citizens, assuming that the public can not only receive news, but also participate in its production, analysis and discussion. In this article, the author aims to 1. Highlight the reasons for the audience's growing interest in participatory journalism – increased civic engagement and civic self-awareness, the development of information and communication technologies, the changing role of the media in society, the audience's need to receive reliable information, and changes in the social statuses of journalists and audiences; 2. To classify and consider the forms of cooperation between the media and the audience – discussion, involvement (open journalism, UGC on official media platforms and UGC on third-party platforms, initiated by the media), 3. To identify problems (loss of editorial control over the material, creation of information noise, "discrimination" of certain points of view, lack of professionalism of citizen authors, lack of audience competencies) and outlines the prospects for its further development (deepening the interaction between the audience and the media, diversity of points of view, stimulation of social activism, strengthening control over content). Particular attention in the work is paid to clarifying the concept of "participatory journalism" and its difference from the concepts of "UGC" and "citizen journalism". The study of the practices of participatory journalism in the study is based on the analysis of the practical experience of domestic and foreign media. The analysis of the empirical material showed the promise of this type of journalism, its dynamism and ability to meet the requirements of the information age. Due to the ability to integrate into social media, as well as the audience’s need to be involved in the modern agenda, participate in solving social problems and influence social processes, participatory journalism has great prospects for development in modern media discourse, contributing to a deeper analysis of social problems.References
