The increasing attention to professional mediaeducation relates to the transformation of the media environment and the mass media’s growing role. Russian universities that implement media communication training programs are interested in providing an educational process that reflects current trends in the development of the mediasphere. One of the modern forms of media information integrated into socio-political, economic, and cultural processes is the Internet meme. Given the popularity of this phenomenon, the authors of the article propose to intensify the study of Internet memes within the framework of professional media education and develop a program for the discipline “Internet memes”: they identify the target orientation of the subject, the competencies formed, and the thematic structure. The following research methods were used: analysis, modeling, description. In the process of studying Internet memes, the authors used the systematic consideration, which is reflected in the following thematic sections of the course: "Internet memes as a phenomenon of modern communication", “Internet memes: functional and typological characteristics”, “Internet memes in advertising and PR”, “Internet memes: legal and ethical aspects of use”, “Internet memes: structure and construction”. The authors propose the following definition of the term “Internet meme”: an information product (text, image, image), in the creation of which comic means (humor, irony, satire, sarcasm) were used, distributed through social media. Considering an Internet meme as a media information (media product), the authors recommend to study it in the context of media, advertising, and image communications to identify the goals, functions, and typologies in mass media; they pay attention to the ethical and legal aspects of regulating the creation and distribution of media viruses; they analyze the structure of Internet memes and focus on the methods and technologies of their construction. The conclusion is that the systematic study of Internet memes contributes to the formation of philosophical, cultural, social, and legal knowledge about the activities of media viruses; the proposed educational and methodological development can serve as the basis for the creation of new disciplines aimed at a separate study of Internet memes in journalism; advertising and PR; the legal nature of Internet memes; their modeling; design and etc.References
