Problematic aspects of development youth digital literacy in social media
Keywords:

Using social media for educational purposes, educators have to take responsibility for increasing digital literacy – for themselves and youth. However, the digital generation is more active and advanced social media users and does not perceive teachers and lecturers as mentors. The article provides an overview of recent research that uncovers problematic aspects of this digital divide. Among them are resistance to innovations from the representatives of the older generation, the formalism of the education system and the lack of educational technologies corresponding to the challenges, the marginalization of “adult institutions” (school, family) in the network culture, which traditionally determined literacy standards, etc. The article also presents the results of a focus group with students who describe their experience of exploration of the space of social media. It was a "virtual inculturation" experience without adults. We identified referential groups for young people and factors that increase their digital literacy in social media.
