Abstract

This paper examines the content, genre and format features of videos about archeology using the example of Arkaim (an architectural monument of the Middle Bronze Age). As the material of the study we chose the most popular publications with the tag "Arkaim" on the Russian-language segment of YouTube video hosting. The purpose of the study is to consider how the topic of Arkaim is represented in Russian popular science content and how an Internet audience reacts to it. The key research method is content analysis. With its help it is possible to draw conclusions, including the tendency of the videos being analyzed to mystify the image of Arkaim. However, the study also identified videos of bloggers and scientific popularizers in the format of “destroying myths”. They are aimed at exposing the image of the mystical Arkaim to the audience. Comprehension of the phenomenon of Arkaim in the blogosphere is expressed in different formats, but all the authors of the videos agree on the indisputable uniqueness of this place, although they give polar arguments.
