Abstract

The article examines the coverage of gender issues in the media and public discussion during the late 1980s and early 1990s, including the transformation of gender stereotypes in the press and popular culture, as well as the interaction of new women's organizations with the media. The author notes the importance of "feedback" with the audience in understanding gender issues, as well as the role of professional and creative organizations in shaping the new agenda. A special place in the article is given to the experience of the first Russian-American women's magazine "You and Us" as a platform for discussing gender issues in the post-Soviet space and a source of information for conventional national and regional Russian media.
