The article is devoted to changes in graphic media genres (for example, the genre of cartoons), which are largely caused by major social and historical transformations in the world, and partly - by technical improvements in their performance. It has been established that many genres have merged with new formats that came from social networks, acquired new characteristics, but not only did not lose their audience, but gained new popularity. In a short period of time, “new” graphic media genres have formed on the media market, which represent the transformation of traditional artistic illustrations, as well as media genres: caricatures, comics, strips, satirical drawings, etc. They found their seriality in long historical contexts, merged with memes, became part of Actionism, a major political and social discourse. The functional features of graphic media genres were highlighted: satirical, reflective, historical, informational, aesthetic, educational. The media market in Europe and the United States in the period of 2020 and earlier is characterized by a critical and versatile attitude towards many socially significant, political, crisis and international news stories, which is often expressed by authors and editors in an illustrative way.
