history of editorial documents. Unlike codified codes, which are a declaration of the principles of proper journalistic behavior, editorial standards are an internal document that defines the mission and position of a publication. Through an appeal to editorial standards, the issue of media independence is considered. One of the first editorial standards in Russia was the Dogma of the business newspaper Vedomosti, which later became a model for an internal editorial document for both federal and regional Russian media. The author concludes that economic and technological factors affect the effective functioning of editorial standards in European, American and Russian media. The article notes that Russian journalism has recently faced political control, which has a serious impact on the state of freedom of speech. In the context of political instrumentalization of journalism, professional codes and editorial standards begin to be purely declarative. This undoubtedly testifies to the fact that the Russian media are losing editorial independence and independence from the founder, who often demonstrates diktat in building the editorial policy of the publication.
