Development of telegram channels in the digital media system (on the example of the Republic of Belarus)

Abstract

The article examines the place and role of the Telegram messenger in the media space of the Republic of Belarus. The relevance of the study is due to the dramatically increased influence of Telegram on the formation of the news agenda. The reasons for the increasing popularity of Telegram as a means of communication and self-organization in the context of a political crisis are shown. The characteristics of the Telegram audience are revealed. The research methodology is based on a comparative analysis of statistical data on the audience of the leading Telegram news channels. In a comparative aspect, the indicators of the involvement of Telegram channels were analyzed. The main results of the study show that the use of various Telegram features both as a messenger and as a full-fledged media is constantly increasing. The intensity of the use of the messenger has increased and the variety of functions it performs has also increased. It has been established that the Telegram platform contributes to strengthening feedback from the audience. Chatbots have become a new opportunity to receive information from readers. The author comes to the conclusion that alternative Telegram channels play a leading role in the digital environment. It is concluded that Telegram has established itself as the most important platform for posting news content.
