Abstract

The article examines the genre, pragmatic and linguistic features of Internet comments on the example of articles from British online newspapers. The basic principles of constructing a text message of an Internet comment on the platform of news websites are highlighted and the forms of manifestation of the collective linguistic personality of the author and the reader are described. On the basis of the proposed parameters of the Internet commentary as a secondary electronic genre, the pragmatic component of the “author-reader” and “reader-reader” dialogue is analyzed in order to explicate topical problems during the fight against the pandemic. The main purpose of the genre of online commentary on news websites is to obtain truthful information and express one’s opinion. In communication between the editorial board-reader and the reader-reader, the author chooses the position of an equal participant in the dialogue, introducing additional information, relying on personal experience and demanding the argumentation of the presented opinion. Users are characterized by a high level of cooperation (frequent appeal to the editorial board and other visitors, dialogues, attention to the comments of other communication participants, etc.), a different opinion is allowed. The dialogic nature of texts is not always aimed at creating a friendly atmosphere, the conflict nature of speech behavior is determined by the topic of the discussion, the seriousness of communication, the nature of the stimulus article, focus on the potential interlocutor and the stereotyped or creative speech behaviour.
