Media law literacy as a new competence in the digital environment

The author of the article considers a new competence of an individual in the digital environment – medialaw literacy. The purpose of this article is to identify the main features of the concept, the areas of application of medialaw literacy and consider the tools that allow to get a new competence. Medialaw literacy is an area of intersection of such concepts as legal, digital and media literacy, the interrelated components of which form an independent competence of a modern person in a mediatized environment that meets the new challenges of modernity. The research methodology is based on scientific works in the field of media education, digital and legal literacy, the results of sociological research, court decisions, regulatory documents. The author comes to the conclusion that medialaw literacy is at the same time a universal competence necessary both for everyday interaction with the world of media and for the professional activity of an individual, an effective tool for countering threats to the digital environment and a means of resolving contradictions between the accelerated development of new technologies and the shortcomings of their legal regulation. Medialaw literacy, the assimilation of which should be carried out by a multidirectional and multi-level education system, contributes to the formation of knowledge in the field of media direction, the ability to apply them in the process of interaction with the media environment, understanding the value of human rights in both offline and online environments, the formation of media direction culture.
