Abstract

The era of digital communications has marked a fundamentally new format of relations in the media environment: there is no need for a large number of office workers, and this innovation entails the development of freelancing as a way of earning money, as well as the philosophy of life. At the same time, both legislative and ethical norms of freelance journalism are still not fully formed. We need to formulate the main contradictions and find ways to overcome them in the current practice. We must fill in the existing gaps. In this regard, the solutions found by the Western countries with a longer experience of freelancing, may be useful. Foreign codes of ethics already include paragraphs and sections dedicated to freelancing, and trade unions and associations help authors to fight against rights-grabbing contracts and demand adequate remuneration for their work.
