This article discusses the direction of popular science journalism: a comprehensive definition of this media area is given with an overview of the approaches of various Russian researchers to its interpretation. The content, genre and format features of the content of the Russian popular science portal "Postnauka" are also analyzed. The database of publications of the named media for 2015, 2018 and 2021, including 600 pieces of content, was selected as the research material. The purpose of the study is to consider how the content of the popular science portal has been transformed over the course of six years, to note the key trends in this process and to fix the modern features of popular science materials. The key research methods are manual and machine content analysis and discourse analysis. The study revealed the following significant trends that are typical for the popular science content of the Postnauka portal: a shift from audiovisual content to text content, an increase in the number of materials in modern digital genres and formats and multimedia elements in publications, an increase in the frequency of referring to simplifying methods of presenting scientific content and the use of links to scientific sources and additional materials on the topic, the reflection in the content of the current interests of the audience, the gradual concentration of interest on the achievements and phenomena of Russian rather than world science.
