This study analyses screen models of the family in the context of the socio-cultural and historical transformations that took place in Russia in the post-Soviet period. The materials of this study are modern Russian feature films about family and family upbringing, created between 1992 and 2020 in different genres (167 films). The hermeneutic approach to the analysis of audiovisual media texts was used as the main research method. The article analyses the historical, social, cultural, political and ideological contexts of creating audiovisual media texts of the period under review. In addition, the film images of mother and father presented in Russian feature films about family and family upbringing were studied and described in detail. As a result of the analysis, the authors have come to the conclusion that modern family models in Russian feature films include both traditional nuclear families and single-parent families, models of a crisis or broken family, as well as family models that describe several generations of the same family. In general, at the present stage, Russian feature films actively address the theme of family and family education, reflecting both traditional family values and new social realities. One of the main trends is the desire for a truthful depiction of intra-family relationships, so the focus of many feature films is on the problems of relationships between parents and children, the continuity of generations, crises of family identity and educational models. Modern Russian cinema considers the family as a complex but important social unit, and family education as a process that requires attention, participation and spiritual closeness, which makes such films an important socio-cultural and educational tool.
