Abstract

This article examines the context of publications about Arkaim in online media as a component of the spatial representation of the reserve. As part of what E. W. Soja has called the “spatial turn” in the humanities, Arkaim can be seen as a network of interconnected components that can be understood as both the literal functionality of space and the potential for meaning. The media, therefore, are one of the tools for forming preset perceptions of a certain space; collective understanding and interpretation of the reserve. In this regard, the article examines the thematic dynamics of Arkaim for 2022–2023, as the most relevant stage in the representation of the reserve. 104 publications about Arkaim were used as research material. Through the thematic component of publications, including grouping by news feed, aspects of the media functioning of Arkaim are analyzed. It was revealed that the dominant topics in the coverage of Arkaim in the media are cultural, political and tourism. The results of the study allow us to consider the strategy of representing Arkaim in the media space through the formation of a certain spatial association through an emphasis on the event component: 1) coverage of events within the borders of Arkaim itself (festivals, natural phenomena, etc.) allow us to build an understanding of space as a closed system of connections; 2) coverage of external iterations of Arkaim (exhibitions, films) and reactions from public figures allow us to build an understanding of Arkaim through the semantic, interpretive aspect.
