The article analyzes the current state of the research work of students – future journalists. The globaltrends in the development and functioning of the processes of scientific work of students at universitiesare outlined, the emphasis is on the skills and abilities of a profession with a significant creativecomponent.
The authors present the results of their research, continuing their long-term study of the universitysystem of journalism education in Armenia and Russia, and note the importance of understanding the prospects for professional and creative growth, motivation for self-development. The results of a surveyof St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg State University) and Yerevan (YSU) students are presented, it servedto implement the interaction between researchers and interviewers. Interview of future journalistsaspects and problem areas of research work in the students' own view.
Modern research work is perceived by journalism students as part of media activities. The long-termgoal of universities may be to find solutions to combine traditional forms of science and creative waysof working.
