Considering emotionality (along with creativity, communication and motivation) as one of the key characteristics of a student- journalist, a future professional, the authors of the article suggest that the development of this field can be successfully implemented through the use of active teaching methods – in a system, consciously and purposefully. In order to confirm the hypothesis of the study, an analysis of scientific literature on the topic from related fields was carried out: psychology, pedagogy, sociology. Empirical data were collected due to an experiment conducted with the participation of experimental (EG) and control (KG) groups (journalism students of Surgut State Pedagogical University, Surgut).
Based on the methodology of V. M. Rusalov, in which three areas of personality emotionality are distinguished (psychomotor, intellectual, communicative), active teaching methods were divided into three groups by the author.
The results of the input and final measurements (“Questionnaire of formal dynamic properties of individuality (OFDSI)” by V. M. Rusalov) confirmed the hypothesis. The use of active teaching methods in the classroom helps to increase the level of emotionality of student journalists. The students of the experimental group have become more stress-resistant, respond more adequately to sudden changes in the mood of the interlocutor (audience), are ready to build a communication strategy and objectively evaluate the results of communication. They are more rational in choosing language tools, more confident in the process of social interaction, less sensitive to failures and less irritable.
The empirical data and theoretical conclusions obtained regarding the development of such an important component of holistic media personality as emotionality will improve the training of future journalists, will contribute to their more successful socialization and professional adaptation.
