Abstract

The review presents a critical and analytical analysis of L. P. Saenkova-Melnitskaya’s monograph “Belarusian Film Criticism of the XX-XXI centuries: from the first announcements in print to hybrid genres on the Internet” (Minsk: BSU, 2020. – 243 p.). The reviewed monographic research is devoted to the theory of film critical creativity and the formation of this specialized field of Belarusian journalism, its genre system and problem-thematic agenda. The special demand for works of this kind today is associated with the increasing complexity and diversity of journalism in general and film criticism as a phenomenon appearing simultaneously in several guises, namely as (1) a specialized field of journalism, (2) formed in the context of the journalistic discourse of the national segment of creative activity, that is, the phenomenon of national culture, (3) the phenomenon of mass communication. Monograph of L.P. Saenkova-Melnitskaya is a response to the long overdue need to study and systematize the vast creative heritage formed by the Belarusian journalistic film criticism for decades from the moment of its appearance to the present time. The relevance of the research presented in the monograph is also due to the need to analyze the process of formation, development and generalization of the modern experience of film criticism and media practices in the national media and on the Internet. Until recently, no comprehensive studies of Belarusian film criticism have been conducted. The scale of the scientific results obtained for the first time using multidisciplinary research methods testifies to the opening of a new direction in the Belarusian journalistic science, namely the multidisciplinary study of the theory, history and practice of journalistic film criticism as a specialized field of journalism and as an important segment of national culture.
