Mediatization in the context of the historical development of society and the media

The article notes a high research interest in the problems of mediatization of certain spheres of society (politics, science, education, sports), examines key historical aspects of mediatization of society in the context of media development, describes the nature of the impact of mediatization on social and cultural processes. Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign theoretical sources, the characteristics of the 4 stages of mediatization of society (oral, printed, electronic, digital) associated with the development of communication tools are described, historically established approaches to understanding mediatization (institutional, socio-constructivist, materialist) are described.
Retrospective analysis in relation to the understanding of mediatization is useful for further study of the process of interaction between media and society, opportunities and limitations in assessing the mediatization of specific areas of activity.
