The role of media education in the formation of family educational values

In the context of digitalization and the active influence of media in modern Russia, the role of media education of parents in the formation of family educational values is of particular importance. Family values remain an important factor in the upbringing of the younger generation and the development of children’s personality, but they are under the influence of new information challenges, which requires a revision of traditional approaches to education. The wide access of the younger generation to media content from an early age requires media literacy from parents to protect children from negative influences. Media literacy of parents helps them to control children’s media consumption, develop their critical thinking and stable moral guidelines. As a result of the conducted research, it was revealed that although many parents are aware of the influence of media on the formation of values in children, their level of media literacy and activity in the field of self-education remain low. In this regard, strategies for improving media literacy of parents are proposed, including discussing media content, sharing media, setting family rules, teaching critical perception of information and creating digital security. Special attention is paid to educational programs such as «Family and Media Education», which help parents develop skills for constructive interaction with the media and contribute to strengthening family values. These programs can be implemented in educational institutions, including using remote technologies of interaction with parents. The results of the study emphasize the importance of systematic media education of parents aimed at developing sustainable skills for critical analysis of media content and strengthening family educational strategies, considered as a factor that allows effective adaptation of educational practices to the conditions of the information society.
